Our family of origin is where we develop a sense of ourselves as individuals. Sometimes it is worth exploring beliefs and messages learned during childhood to examine if they are useful to us as adults. Counselling provides a space to look back on our past, not to find fault, but to shed light on our present circumstances and then to make choices about how we want to be.
Sometimes one person in the family can be labelled as "the problem". I meet parents and young people to explore how their relationships can be improved.
Through a process of safe and honest communication, we begin to develop methods to speak to each other in ways that may not have been previously possible.
